Summer is around the corner and that means one thing – holidays. But choosing a holiday isn’t easy and it can often lead to arguments over where to go, what to do and where to stay.

But amid the depths of a cost-of-living crisis, there’s one thing that will be playing on everyone’s mind more than ever this year. Flights can set people back in the hundreds of pounds depending on the destination and the time of year.

While living in London often comes with a premium, flights from the capital can often be cheaper than regional airports, as well as being more direct. There are often plenty of options available – some for as little as £24.

So, if you don’t want to spend hours scouring Skyscanner ahead of your summer holiday, MyLondon has done the hard work for you and compiled a list of the eight cheapest holiday destinations to fly to from London Heathrow.

Paris

France’s capital and the city of love could be the perfect city break for both couples and solo travellers. Flights to Paris can cost as little as £24 when flying from Heathrow in July.

There is plenty to do in Paris beyond the usual visits to the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. And if your on the fence about visiting this beautiful city, the closure of its world-famous gallery Centre Pompidou for five years at the end of Summer is only more motivation to visit.

The cheapest flight in July costs £24 on the first of the month, with a return for £61 on Friday, July 4. These can be booked through the British Airways website here.

Santiago de Compostela

Flights from this beautiful north-eastern Spanish city are as cheap as £26 in July, or £50 for a return. Santiago de Compostela is famous for being the cumulation point on the Camino de Santiago.

The gorgeous cathedral city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its historic Old Town. Galician culture is also famed for its delicious food, vibrant dance and its blend of Spanish and Celtic traditions.

July’s cheapest outbound flight is £26 on the first of the month, with a return on July 5 for £29. You can book flights through Vueling here.

Barcelona

Spain’s second capital, and the home of world famous artist Gaudí, is also surprisingly one of the cheapest destinations to fly to from Heathrow. Travellers can reach this beautiful Spanish city in just over two hours for as little as £31 when flying directly from Heathrow.

Barcelona is the perfect mixture between a city break and a beach holiday. Some of the top things to do include visiting the famous Park Güell, immersing yourself in the beauty of Sagrada Familia and enjoying the music and food it the city’s Gothic Quarter. You can browse prices on Skyscanner.

Nice

The capital city of the Alpes-Maritimes department of the French Riviera sits on the pebbly shores of the Baie des Anges. Nice was a former residence of world-famous artist Henri Matisse who is honoured at the Musée Matisse.

You can fly to this beach-filled French city from Heathrow for as little as £39 in July. Accommodation can vary but there are some lovely hotels close to the sea front which cost as little as £60 per night for a room when booked through Booking.com.

Luxembourg

The small European city of Luxembourg is a rural paradise filled with nature parks and rocky gorges. It’s capital, Luxembourg City, is home to a fortified medieval old town steeped in history.

Flights to Luxembourg can be well under £50 in July. If your looking for a cheap flight, you can fly out on Wednesday, July 2 at 8.20am with British Airways and return on Monday, July 7 for £61.22.

Airbnb has plenty of cabins, flats and rooms available for as little as £84 a night. Or if you want to really save on money you could book a Hostel for a fraction of the price.

Dublin

A little closer to home, Dublin is full of lovely historic buildings and Irish cultural landmarks. It’s a popular option for those looking to visit the Guinness Storehouse or the Irish Whiskey Museum. Flights can be as cheap as £31 from Heathrow in July, taking around and hour-and-a-half to reach Dublin Airport with British Airways.

If you want to learn more about Ireland’s history, you can visit the Kilmainham Gaol, a historic prison turned museum which showcases the country’s struggle for independence. But if you want to keep it a little more light-hearted, you can explore Dublin’s vibrant nightlife such as famous boozers like Temple Bar or areas like Harcourt Street and Camden Street.

Basel

The northwestern city of Basel is situated on River Rhine and considered the cultural capital of Switzerland. Travellers can spend hours exploring the city’s historic Old Town and its renowned museum.

Flights in July from Heathrow can be less than £40 one way. One of the best deal is to take the 4.15pm British Airways flight on Tuesday, July 1 and return to London on Friday, July 4 at 6am. These can be booked online at Booking.com.
