Ghana has officially discontinued its visa-on-arrival arrangement for African nationals as part of a broader immigration modernization reform.
The announcement was made during the launch of the country’s new electronic visa (e-Visa) portal, which will now serve as the primary platform for visa applications.
According to the government, the new digital system is designed to strengthen security vetting processes, improve efficiency, and modernize border control operations.
The policy shift marks a transition from the traditional visa-on-arrival system to a fully online application process, requiring travelers to complete visa applications before entering the country.
The reform was highlighted by Ghana’s leadership, including President John Dramani Mahama, who emphasized the importance of adopting a more secure and technology-driven immigration system.
With this change, travelers intending to visit Ghana will now need to apply through the official digital portal ahead of their journey, as visa-on-arrival access is gradually phased out.
